Today is my last day of diving, and my second last day in Belize. It's been a fun two weeks of discovering diving, and what the Caribbean Sea has to offer. The GoPro worked, and had some nice deep and long dives.
During the safety stop of the first dive, we were hanging out above a large sand bar between two reefs. Just as some of our group started to surface, the largest Spotted Ray glided on below us. We all looked at eachother, and at our gauges, and decided if we hang around for a while longer at 15-20ft wouldn't be a bad idea.
I don't know exactly how big this guy was, but it looked massive, with the sand being about 80' below us. It did have some remoras hanging on for a ride, so we were hoping it would try to knock them off by coming up shallower and come for a visit.
Sadly it did not, and turned after a few minutes into the reef. We surfaced, and regaled the sights to the crew.
The afternoon dive was interesting, a site that had a bit of current going through it. It wasn't a site that they visited often as it isn't as 'lush' and abundant with coral and fish, but they did say often they find some interesting things when they do. The computer I was diving that day was almost in deco for the last half of the dive, making it awkward to look at the smaller creatures on the reef below that I like to look at.
